Tour Highlights
Pastoral Landscape
Surrounded by a pastoral landscape, Tako Town is known for its delicious rice. The rice, cultivated in this region’s unique climate, abundant clean water, and fertile soil, can be enjoyed as a bento lunch along the banks of the Kuriyama River or at the dining area on the second floor of Roadside Station Tako Ajisai-kan.
Roadside Station Tako Ajisai-kan
This area features sweets created with a natural sweetness that doesn’t rely on sugar, using rice koji made from Tako-grown rice and traditional Japanese fermentation techniques. It also focuses on designing convenient and healthy products so that customers visiting this roadside station can enjoy them with ease. Additionally, it focuses on upcycling by using non-standard vegetables that producers have carefully cultivated, thereby creating new value for the ingredients. Fermented sweets include visually appealing creations such as Tako brown rice amazake soft-serve ice cream topped with Tako rice crackers, which are hard to resist.
Optional Activities

Electric Bicycle Rental
At the Roadside Station Tako Ajisai-kan, you can rent electric-assist bicycles, which are a popular and enjoyable way to explore the peaceful rural scenery of Tako Town. You can ride along narrow paths through rice paddies, or use the electric assist to easily climb hills and make your way to Nichihon-ji Temple. We recommend you enjoy a bike ride along the Kuriyama River and stop by the Hydrangea Park along the way.
- Rental fee: 500 yen per day
- Eligibility: Persons aged 13 and above
- Required documents: Passport or ID card with photo

Nichihon-ji Temple
Nichihon-ji Temple is an important temple of the Nichiren sect and is known for having been the site of the “Nakamura Danrin,” an educational institution for monks. Nichihon-ji Temple is also famous as the “Hydrangea Temple.” In June, approximately 10,000 colorful hydrangeas bloom throughout the forest on the temple grounds, delighting the eyes of visitors.

Cruising and hydrangeas
From spring to summer, you can enjoy a leisurely cruise in a short river boat ride along the Kuriyama River, which flows through the center of Tako Town. (Weekends and holidays only) This riverboat is called a “sappa boat” and was once used for daily life and river transport. Take your time to enjoy the peaceful rural scenery and seasonal flowers from the water, and enjoy views that you can’t see from land. After the cruise, you can also stop by the Hydrangea Park along the Kuriyama River and relax while enjoying the hydrangeas blooming on both banks of the river.
