Tour Highlights

Museum of Aeronautical Sciences
The Museum of Aeronautical Sciences is Japan’s first museum dedicated to aviation and offers a wide range of learning opportunities, from the history of Japanese aviation to the latest technologies. In 2019, the museum underwent a renovation to celebrate its 30th anniversary, making the exhibits and hands-on activities even more extensive. This museum offers plenty of hands-on exhibits and attractions, including panoramic views overlooking Narita Airport, displays that let you learn while seeing real engines and cockpits, and an outdoor exhibition area where you can see actual aircraft up close. This museum offers exciting experiences for both adults and children, allowing everyone to enjoy the charms of airplanes with all five senses. It combines elements of “seeing, learning, and experiencing” while introducing visitors to the charms of aviation and the wonders of science.
Restaurant Fu-Wa-Ri(Weekdays only)
Restaurant Fu-Wa-Ri offers an all-you-can-eat buffet featuring dozens of dishes, including home-style Japanese food, giving visitors an authentic taste of Japan’s food culture. This restaurant is also popular locally and is the perfect place to try not only fresh agricultural products harvested in Shibayama Town and the surrounding areas, but also regional specialties from across Japan. Guests can relax and enjoy their chosen meals in seats filled with bright sunlight streaming through the wide, high windows designed to offer clear views of airplanes taking off. Additionally, the restaurant has direct access to the adjacent local market facility “Sora no Eki,” where visitors can shop for local specialties such as fresh vegetables before or after enjoying their meal.
- Note: On weekends and holidays, the location for lunch will be changed to the observation restaurant “Balloon” inside the aviation museum.
Optional Activities
Flight simulation experiences
You can enjoy realistic flight simulation experiences on the B737-MAX and B777 simulators at the Museum of Aeronautical Sciences. In particular, the Boeing 737 simulator uses the same type of equipment found in actual pilot training systems, so you can experience a realistic cockpit. Reservations are required, so please sign up at the front desk on the day of your visit.
Airplane Hill
“Airplane Hill” is a scenic spot located just about 600 meters from Runway A at Narita Airport. You can enjoy unobstructed views of airplanes taking off from Narita Airport and flying almost directly overhead. In addition to experiencing the thrilling scenes of takeoffs and landings up close, the hill also features a beautiful lawn area and a heart-shaped monument, making it a spot that families and couples can enjoy. Visiting the “Airplane Hill” after touring the Museum of Aeronautical Sciences is especially recommended for aviation enthusiasts because it provides a fully immersive experience of the charms of aviation through both sight and sound.
Narita Airport and Community Historical Museum
The Narita Airport and Community Historical Museum presents the history of the region, from the area before Narita Airport was built, through its creation and development, and on to the present and future. Through a variety of exhibits and videos, visitors can learn about the social context of each period, the relationship between the airport and the local community, and how they have built and developed their relationship through ongoing dialogue. We hope this facility will help many visitors learn more about the history and present state of Narita Airport.
